Semipalmated Sandpiper, Vancouver Island

A small group of these sandpipers were running up and down the waterline on French Beach near Victoria, British Columbia when we visited a couple of weeks ago. There seem to be a rather large number of different sandpiper species that call B.C. home but, from the information I’ve trawled up via Google, I’m reasonably sure that this is a Semipalmated Sandpiper (calidris pusilla). If you know otherwise, though, please let me know.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/8
  • Camera: CORPORATION
  • Focal length: 600mm
  • ISO: 400
