Dramatic Sky over the Weber House

The derelict “Weber House” near Colfax, Washington seen in infra-red. When I shot this, the wheat in the foreground was bright green but, thanks to the way I process colour IR images to turn the sky blue from the original red-orange of the captured file, this shifts greens to gold which gives the scene more of a harvest look.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/11
  • Camera: NIKON D5000
  • Focal length: 16mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/90s

The moment my eyes hit this image there was something about the color of everything that felt so unique and special. I couldn’t put my finger on why it looked different but reading the description now I know why! Absolutely beautiful.

Thanks, Karen! If you like this, you should also take a look at this fantastic IR shot of the same scene that Mike Criswell captured that same night.
