Mutton Buster

When you think about rodeo, everyone knows about bronco riding, steer roping and barrel racing. Unless you’ve been to a rodeo, however, you probably don’t know about one of the most popular sections of every event – mutton bustin’. In this competition, kids between the ages of 5 and 9 or thereabouts have to ride a sheep for as long as possible without falling off. The winner is the one who stays on the longest and, certainly at last night’s Gunner Thames Memorial Rodeo in Wimberley, there are huge trophies to be won.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/6.3
  • Focal length: 600mm
  • ISO: 3200
  • Shutter speed: 1/1000s
