Heading for the Checkered Flag

I took this shot on the very last lap of the race with only one turn left before Lewis Hamilton took the checkered flag and won his fourth US Grand Prix (3 victories at Circuit 0f the Americas and one at Indianapolis) and, more importantly, his third drivers’ world championship. I knew the background offered by the stars and stripes in the runoff area between turns 18 and 19 would be fantastic but I only just made it there in time to grab this shot before the race ended!

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/6.3
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 500mm
  • ISO: 140
  • Shutter speed: 1/250s
