What a fantastic F1 weekend the folks out at Circuit of the Americas put on this year! They even managed to organise fabulous weather, distinctly more fan-friendly than last year’s post-tropical-storm downpour. The facility improvements were excellent (no more dusty paths, more paving, better concessions) and the overall atmosphere of the weekend was electric. I don’t know the attendance numbers yet but, from my perspective, it looked busier than ever and I expect that extra 100,000 people who came along to hear Taylor Swift on Saturday will have helped the bottom line somewhat too. Overall, though, it was probably the best Austin F1 weekend yet.
On track, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes AMG Petronas dominated the race, starting from pole position and holding the lead all through the 56 laps (forgetting a couple of aberrant periods during the pitstop cycles).
