Here’s another picture from my walk through Lanark Cemetery. I was interested to see a large obelisk in the centre of the cemetery and discovered that this was a monument to Covenanters executed or otherwise punished during a particularly nasty period of civil war, rebellion and religious persecution back in the 17th century. Oddly enough, I didn’t study this period of history while at school and reading about it now definitely leaves me thinking that Scotland is a lot better off these days than it was then! You can get a quick overview of the nastiness over on Wikipedia.
