Rolling Palouse Textures

A wise photographer once told me to make sure to always shoot both horizontal and vertical compositions of any scene so that you were ready for either a cover or a two-page spread. I obviously took his advice – you can find a horizontal version of this shot here.

This was taken from the top of Steptoe Butte in eastern Washington’s Palouse region just before sunset during our 2015 “NxNW” photoblogger trip. The views from the butte were so spectacular, we visited it twice during our 4 day trip.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/9.5
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 600mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/350s
