I had some fun playing with my macro lens in the hummingbird garden at Selvatura Park in Costa Rica. This Scaly-Breasted Hummingbird (phaeochroa cuvierii) was perched on my son’s finger at a feeder when I took the picture. I don’t normally like feeders visible in hummingbird shots and try to get the picture while the bird is either perched away from the feeder or has lifted its head between feedings. In this case, though, I didn’t manage to exclude it entirely – if you look closely at the bird’s eye, you can see the yellow and red feeder reflected quite nicely.
