Ladder-backed Woodpecker

We spent some time this weekend visiting the bird blind at Pedernales Falls State Park. While we were there, a few interesting visitors arrived including a pair of ladder-backed woodpeckers (dryobates scalaris). Here’s the male, recognisable by his red cap.

On a side note, I’ve decided to stop offering my pictures under a Creative Commons license. The spirit of this license is great but there are too many commercial bad actors abusing it to steal pictures. From here on, all my published photos will be All Rights Reserved and, if you find a picture you want to use, please email me for permission first. If your use is non-commercial, I’ll most likely allow you to use it.

For the technically inclined...
