Texas African American History Memorial

The new Texas African American History Memorial sits in the south western part of the State Capitol grounds and I bumped into it on Saturday while at the Texas Book Festival. I say “new” but it was installed back in 2016 so I was pretty surprised that this was the first time I had seen it.

The large and beautifully sculpted memorial is topped by these two figures, one holding a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation and the other the torch of liberty.

You can read a lot more about the monument at http://taahmf.com/the-monument/.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/9.5
  • Camera: NIKON D500
  • Focal length: 70mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/350s
