New Lanark in Scotland is one of the best examples of a historical preservation project you will find anywhere. Since the 1970s, the village has been transformed from a mostly-abandoned collection of rundown industrial units and homes into a vibrant and beautiful community and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
One of the most recent projects was the renovation of one of the old mill buildings into the New Lanark Mill Hotel, seen here on the left. We visited for lunch a couple of days ago and were impressed by the food and service as well as the lovely views of the River Clyde.
