Sweepstakes Winner

Last week was the annual Hays County Youth Livestock Show in Dripping Springs. I didn’t get to spend as much time there as usual but was around for the first couple of hours of the auction on Saturday morning. Winning animals and other projects (arts, cooking, photography, textiles, etc.) in the various show categories take part in the auction where local benefactors “buy” the projects (this is not a terminal show so the kids actually keep the winning entries). I’ve not heard a final tally but somewhere around $750,000 was likely to have been donated to college funds and scholarships during the event.

In this photo, the winner of the intermediate home skills sweepstakes competition (the entrant gaining the most overall points across all the non-animal categories) waits for his auction lot to come up.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/4
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 38mm
  • ISO: 1100
  • Shutter speed: 1/90s
