Founder’s Carnival, 2019

This past weekend was the annual Founder’s Day celebration in Dripping Springs. On Friday, I spent the evening covering the parade for the local newspaper then had some fun playing with my drone just as the sun was setting. Here’s my favourite of those images taken from the sports field at Walnut Springs Elementary School looking back towards the carnival and town centre.

During this experiment, I managed to set the camera properly (no auto-ISO this time!) and was very impressed at how stable a platform the Mavic Air provides. This is a half second exposure but some of the longer ones up to 3 seconds or so are still beautifully sharp.

You can find more of my aerial images of the event at https://davewilson.smugmug.com/Miscellaneous/Founders-Day-2019-Aerial/ and my general parade photos at https://davewilson.smugmug.com/Miscellaneous/Founders-Day-2019/.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/2.8
  • Camera: FC2103
  • Exposure bias: -7/10EV
  • Focal length: 4.5mm
  • ISO: 100
  • Shutter speed: 1/2s
