I’m back to insects this week after another visit to the flower field at Nutty Brown Farm. Here’s another widow skimmer dragonfly (Libellula luctuosa) I found last Thursday evening. I’ve discovered that dragonflies seem a lot more active in the evening than the early morning so getting a decent shot was tricky on this most recent visit. Their increased activity was offset by the fact that there were several more of them around (or, at least, several more visible) than on the previous morning visit so I captured at least 3 different individuals this time.
Unlike all my previous butterfly shots, this one was taken with my 300mm f/4 lens which, it turns out, can focus as close as 4 feet which is perfect for full-length dragonfly portraits.
