I had the pleasure of attending my first Cotton Bowl game in Dallas last Saturday with the UT Longhorn Band. The annual game between the University of Texas Longhorns and the University of Oklahoma Sooners is one of the country’s great rivalry matches and, set half way between the two schools, draws high crowds with very similar numbers of supporters for each team. It’s also one of the very few games where both schools bring their whole band so we had double the pregame entertainment and two half time shows.
I’ll be posting some of my favourite images from the event this week and I’m starting with a portrait of Christian Douglas, 2021 Longhorn Band Drum Major, as he fires up his troops during practice just before the band marched into the stadium. In the background, you can see the iconic observation tower in the State Fair park which also contains the stadium.
