Gray Hairstreak

Happy New Year! Let’s start 2022 with something completely different from the images I’ve been posting for the last couple of months.

I spent some time experimenting with new macro gear last week. Here’s a Gray Hairstreak buttterfly (Strymon melinu) I found on one of our lantana bushes. This was lit using a ring flash with worked pretty well here but showed some harsh highilghts when I was closer to the subject. More lighting experimentation is needed!

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/16
  • Camera: E-M1MarkII
  • Focal length: 60mm
  • ISO: 800
  • Shutter speed: 1/125s
