The Sail at Sunset

I took another trip downtown for yesterday’s sunset. I had planned to shoot another panorama of the skyline from Butler Park but the light was so magnificent that I spent all of it flying the drone instead, capturing images of the sunset colors reflecting off the glass of the various buildings along Cesar Chavez Boulevard.

In this image, taken about 20 minutes after the sun had set, the Google “Sail” can be seen in the centre left with the new Austin Central Library on the far left. The building under construction on the right doesn’t appear to have a name other than “Sixth and Guadalupe” but it’s destined to open this year and, at 66 floors, will be another dominant landmark on the skyline.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/2.8
  • Camera: FC3411
  • Exposure bias: -1.3EV
  • Focal length: 8.38mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/20s
