We spied this cormorant, most likely a South Georgia Shag (Leucocarbo georgianus), fishing in Cooper Bay, South Georgia on Christmas Day last year. These birds, and several very similar species of blue-eyed cormorant, are very common all around the subantarctic islands. I’m partly guessing on the identification here since I can’t see this individual’s wings but, based on the location, eBird suggests it’s most likely the South Georgia Shag rather than the Antarctic or Imperial Shag.
