Wind-blown Albatross




A Black-browed Albatross (Thalassarche melanophris) gets ruffled by a high wind as it sits on its nest on New Island, one of the Falkland Islands, on December 19th, 2024. I took this during our first shore excursion of the expedition. The boat was anchored in the lee of the island and we walked across to the windward side to see the bird colonies where the wind and salt spray were pretty intense. I was impressed that these birds could stay put under the onslaught!
