We’re spending a few days down on the Gulf coast so I got up early (too early, as it happens – sunrise is currently more than an hour earlier than the opening time of the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center) to hang out on the boardwalks for a couple of hours with a long lens. Here’s a juvenile Tricolor Heron (Egretta tricolor) that was kind enough to stay put in the top of a mangrove long enough for me to get some nice, back-lit images of it.
