Una Peaks

The two basalt buttresses known as Una Peaks mark the northern entrance to Antarctica’s stunningly picturesque Lemaire Channel. The beauty of this area has earned it the nickname “Kodak Gap”. This image was taken on December 31st, 2024.

These mountains, the taller of which rises to over 2400 feet, were previously known as the Cape Renard Towers but are now listed as Una Peaks in honour of Una Spivey, a secretary working for the British Antarctic Survey in Stanley in the 1950s. The colloquial name is rather more bawdy than “Una Peaks”.
