This will be the final picture from last year’s amazing adventure for a while since we’re about to head off on this year’s Christmas trip. Here’s a shot taken a year ago today in the utterly charming town of Stanley in the Falkland Islands. I was very pleasantly surprised by how much of an impact our visit to the Falklands had on me. Not only is the landscape very similar to Scotland’s western isles, but the people are almost more British than Britain and, at least based on the dozen or so folks we spoke to, enormously friendly. I was a teenager back in 1982 when the Falklands War broke out and visiting some of the sites I remember from the news back then was also a rather moving experience. Other pleasant surprises were the large stock of British chocolate in the town supermarket (which Drew and I happily helped reduce), the really interesting, locally distilled gins at Falkland Island Distillers, the fascinating town museum, and the excellent beer at Falkland Beerworks.
