Ice Cave

A detail of a huge tabular iceberg seen near Cooper Bay, South Georgia on December 25th, 2024. I love the contrast between the smooth, ocean-washed sections immediately above the surface and the hard textures higher on the ice wall. This image also does a better job than most of showing scale thanks to the flock of birds visible in front of the cave entrance.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/5.6
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Focal length: 395mm
  • ISO: 320
  • Shutter speed: 1/1500s
