I’m starting a series of HDR Tips over on the blog but, breaking the theme, here’s a non-HDR for today.
This shot was taken at a BMX pump track in Austin about a year or so ago. I had a great afternoon with buddy Miles Bintz shooting the riders with remote flashes set up around some of the better jumps. In this case, I had an SB600 on a light stand off to the left of the picture with the head zoomed so that it would catch the riders as they took the jump.
This picture also falls into the “taking your life in your hands” category since I shot it with an ultra-wide lens from the very bottom of the jump. The wheels passed my head with about 4 inches to spare, I reckon!

In addition to your other talents, it appears that you are an accomplished Strobist as well. Excellent image!
I’m not sure I would consider myself a “Strobist” aside from the fact that I read the blog. I don’t know a grid from a snoot and am pretty fresh at the whole outdoor flash thing. I guess this was beginner’s luck!
