Aqua Building Abstract, Chicago

Sometimes you take a shot and realise that you’re going to like the result as soon as the shutter is pressed. This was one of those images for me but I like it even more with the blue split tone.

This picture was taken during my downtown Chicago photowalk with Charles Dastodd on Friday evening and shows the Aqua Building. It’s cropped to generate an abstract feel and I shot it with monochrome in mind since it’s obviously a shape picture. The fact that it was taken at night and lit by sodium vapour streetlights also helped the monochrome decision somewhat 🙂

Wow! I love the color, love the shapes and love the monochromatic look of this. Keeping focused on the building and not showing any ‘edges’ in this is brilliant. It is very much a ‘shape’ photo, and does look (somewhat) like a building at the bottom, but as you look up into the photo it looks more and more organic. When I stepped back to take it in, it reminded me very much of gills or lungs or some organic looking alien.
(Okay, I admit – I’m weird).

Has a very ‘cool’ feeling to it. Nice shot. I need to get to Chicago sometime. Been too long.
