Adélie Penguin

Based on a very unscientific glance at Instagram engagement numbers, it seems that people prefer penguins and icebergs to rusty whaling stations so, in an attempt to give people what they want, here’s a few more penguins. I saw this Adélie (Pygoscelis adeliae) with two chicks on Petermann Island on December 31st, 2024. Despite waiting quite some time, the chicks never showed their faces but parent game me several amusing expressions.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/5.6
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Focal length: 313mm
  • ISO: 400
  • Shutter speed: 1/1000s
