Reversed Loco

A view of the Lancashire Fusilier steam locomotive and front carriage of The Jacobite train as it sat in Mallaig station on August 28th, 2025 before departing on its return journey to Fort William.

During the stop, the loco is moved to the other end of the carriages and, given that there’s no turntable available, ends up pulling the train in reverse on the way back. If you’re watching for a crossing of Glenfinnan Viaduct, it’s probably a good idea to take this into account – the best view will be on the outbound journey when the locomotive is facing in the “correct” direction.

For the technically inclined...
