Short-horned Lizard

Here’s another image of the Hernandez’s Short-horned Lizard (Phrynosoma hernandesi) that I bumped into during our hike on Picacho Peak outside Santa Fe last Saturday. This is a focus-stacked image generated from four separate exposures (the lizard was kind enough to sit still for a couple of seconds) and merged in Photoshop. The OM-1 does in-camera focus stacking and the results were good but my settings were off and the background ended up in focus in that version which I didn’t want. This version, however, just included the frames containing focused portions of the lizard and the result is exactly what I was aiming for.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/4
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Focal length: 100mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/500s
