First Stage Engine Detail, Saturn V

During last weekend’s visit to Space Center Houston and Johnson Space Center I spent an hour or so in the Rocket Park shooting more pictures around the Saturn V moon rocket they have there.

On my previous visit, I shot exclusively with an ultra-wide lens and got several images I’m delighted with (such as this one and this one) so this time I wanted to round out the collection with detail shots. As a result, I spent most of the time with the 70-200mm lens on the camera picking out interesting bits and pieces as I walked around the rocket. I’ll be posting these over the next week or so.

This particular image shows three of the first stage F-1 rocket engine nozzles. I’m constantly amazed at the complexity of these and blown away by the technical specifications of the engines themselves. The flow rates and forces generated are hard to imagine and I have huge respect for the engineers who designed them.

That’s nice. But I thought this was gonna be a car engine detailing topic.
