City of Austin Sign, Seaholm Power Plant

I was fortunate enough to be allowed inside the decommissioned Seaholm Power Plant in downtown Austin this morning along with several other members of the ”Austin HDR Mafia” – Andy ”Atmtx” who arranged the outing, Alex Suarex, Van Sutherland, Mike Connell, Mike Tuuk and Steven Ng. We had free reign to shoot whatever we wanted for a couple of hours thanks to the nice people at City of Austin.

This plant operated from the 1950s through until 1989 and was decommissioned in 1996. Since then, plans have been drawn up to redevelop the site, retaining the original building as a space for special events. Even before the redevelopment has started, the space is already used in a reasonably regular basis for events including various put on during the annual South By Southwest (SXSW) music festival.
