Cumulus Reflection, South Padre Island

Cumulus clouds seen reflected in the calm bay waters of South Padre Island, Texas shortly after sunrise. This image was shot from the Birding and Nature Center.

In case anyone is interested, this is straight out of the camera with no digital mucking around whatsoever.

Thanks! By the way, did any of you notice the guy fishing just to the left of the centre of the frame? Look for the duck-egg blue spec 🙂

Very Well done, Dave! Wish I could master manual settings like you do!

Thanks, Evan. “Mastering” manual isn’t tricky, especially when you have an LCD with highlight warning. I shot 3 or 4 of this image, tweaking the exposure half a stop each time until I nailed it. Someone who had really mastered manual would likely have got it on the first click. The trick is knowing how to second-guess the meter and set the right amount of under or over-exposure for the scene when you are dialing in the settings. That’s the bit I’m still working on (though my guesses are getting closer the more I shoot).

Thanks for that Dave. I guess I take the “Kelby” approach and take a shot in Aperture or Program and if the “blinkies” come on when review the highlights in the lcd, then I dial it down. I guess that’s sort of the same thing. But, I should try Manual anyway and see what happens.
