Girder Framework, Holly St Power Plant

Time for another short series although this one is really a continuation since I’ve posted several images from this shoot in the past. I’ve now gone back and done a more thorough edit of the images I took at Austin’s soon-to-be-decommissioned Holly Street Power Plant a few months ago and will post these over the next few days.

This shot shows the girder framework supporting one of the plant’s boilers. These massive structures sit alongside the turbine hall. There are three boilers, each 5 storey (maybe 6?) tall and each suspended from the top of a steel support structure by enormous springs. Getting to the top was a rather daunting experience for someone as terrified of heights as I am (yes, I’m a wimp when it comes to cliff faces or high stairs but, oddly enough, have absolutely no problems with flying) given that all the walkways are made of see-through mesh!

I absolutely love the warm tones throughout the image. All of the chaotic lines adds to just how much is actually going on in this shot. Well done, mate.
