Noise Suppression, Holly St Power Plant

On the top of each boiler at the Holly Street Power Plant, you will find an array of these huge mufflers, presumably acting as noise suppression systems (any mechanical engineers out there care to fill in some details?).

The plant was scheduled for demolition this August but I’ve heard that this has been brought forward to July so these may be some of the last photos taken there.
