Watching the Action, Wimberley Rodeo

A cowboy looks on as a bull-rider loses his grip at the Wimberley Rodeo.

Yes, before anyone comments, this was one of those accidental shots. I was focusing squarely on the bull but this guy walked into the shot and my camera decided he was more important. When I was doing my first edit, I was disappointed but looking at the picture now, I’m very happy with it since it shows another side of the rodeo action.

What do you think – does this happy accident work?

Thanks, Mark. This one is straight out of the camera (except for a square crop). I was shooting directly into a sunset for the first 30 minutes of the event.

Going for the ‘action’ shot that is so easy to get at a rodeo is so seductive. This shot is much more atmospheric and evocative. Thank Heavens for ‘happy accidents’. And smart work realizing what you had.

Thanks, Laurence. The more I look at this shot, the more I like it and am glad I didn’t give in to the initial “reject” reaction.

Lovely shot Dave! Superb tone to it and love the fact that it was one of those accidental ones!

I like it, a different take on the event, it adds a certain something.
