I had the pleasure of spending an overnight aboard the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi last Saturday. Our cub scout troop was taking part in their annual live-aboard trip so 45 of us headed south for the weekend.
The ship was fascinating and, although it felt like I had not taken very many pictures, I ended up with enough artistic keepers to populate the whole of this week’s photoblog entries. If you are interested in the general snaps from the trip, you can find them over on the pack’s Flickr account.
This particular shot was taken on Sunday morning from the port side sponson. The sunrise light shining into the flight deck was spectacular (as you will see from 3 pictures queued up for later in the week).
What a great experience for you guys and a great pic ta boot! Very nice!

First thing I thought to myself when I saw this shot was, “Oooo, better than Nightingale..” I love your treatment of the clouds here. Well done, Dave!

Thanks, gents!
Evan, I’m flattered that you would think this resembles one of DJN’s shots but I have to disagree since I am still very much in his shadows when it comes to post processing! Actually, there wasn’t a whole lot done to this shot aside from the basic HDR/tonemap step and I’m pretty sure I hardly touched the colour at all.
