F-14 Cockpit, USS Lexington

I’m generally pretty lazy when it comes to post-processing. Most of the pictures I post have had no more than 10 minutes work done on them after I get them into Lightroom. This one, however, took a fair bit more effort.

It started as a single exposure of the canopy of the F-14 ”Tomcat” which sits on USS Lexington’s flight deck. the sun was shining through the somewhat frosted canopy and, with the dramatic clouds above it, I felt it made an interesting shot. I also knew, however, that I couldn’t pull off the effect I wanted without help from Photoshop. The original exposure was rather flat with the side of the aircraft very much darker than the sky but, after 4 or 5 curves layers and a hue/saturation layer, I ended up with a dramatic image I’m pretty happy with.

Pretty cool shot Dave! I think you handled the curves pretty well – looks properly exposed from here. Good stuff!

Stunning! I love the sun reflecting (or shining through) the window!
