About a year or so ago, I did a real-estate shoot for a couple of friends who converted this great building in south Austin from a stable into a retreat centre for writers and illustrators. The owner is a children’s book author and the Writing Barn is quickly becoming a magnet for some of the best authors in the country.
During last year’s Texas Book Festival, the barn hosted the KidLit party and a new tradition was started whereby all published authors or illustrators who visit get to sign one of the beams on the porch with a black marker. I’m sure these will become very valuable one day, covered in prestigious signatures and doodles by well-known illustrators!
