Chasing a Steer

While Mutton Busting may be the crowd pleaser at Rodeo Austin, I think the roping events are the ones which appeal to me most. Rather than pure machismo, roping a running steer from the back of a galloping horse seems, to me, to take an enormous amount of skill.

Before I offend anyone who is into bronco or bull riding, I’m sure there’s a lot more involved there than merely hanging on for dear life! To a casual observer such as myself, though, the way these cowboys can handle a lasso is pretty darned impressive.

I’ve never been to a rodeo, but I’ve seen ’em on TV.. 🙂 With that being said, I totally agree with you. It must take a ton of skill to not only rope a moving animal, but doing so while riding atop another live moving animal and telling that animal where to go at the same time! Nice shot as always!
