We had a lovely day in and around Silverton, Colorado during our vacation last month. Rather than taking the famous steam train both ways between Durango and the historic silver-mining town, we took a bus up and came back on the train. Given that the train takes 3 hours versus 30 minutes by car or bus, this gave is a lot more time to explore the old architecture in Silverton. Don’t be tempted to avoid the train ride entirely, though – the views on the way down the mountain are absolutely phenomenal and you have plenty of time to take them in from either a closed or an open carriage.
While wandering around, I noticed this fence built entirely from old skis.
