National Concert Hall, Taipei

Taipei’s Chaing Kai-shek Memorial is built on one side of a huge, cobbled square known variously as “Liberty Square”, “Freedom Square” or “Memorial Hall Square”. On two of the other sides, you can find large, matching buildings, one containing the National Concert Hall (seen here) and the other, the National Theatre.

On the steps and porches around both these buildings, groups gather to practice Tai Chi, Falun Gong and, oddly enough, various dance steps. The same was true at Sun Yat-sen Memorial where I saw everthing from swing to tango to hip-hop being practiced.

I wonder what it is that draws dance groups to national monuments for their rehearsals in Taiwan?
