Steer Roping, Dripping Springs Rodeo

Of all the rodeo events, the ones that impress me the most are those involving roping running cattle. I find it amazing that anyone can throw a rope accurately from the back of a horse and catch a sprinting calf but these guys can and do it in a very small number of seconds.

From a photographic perspective, this was the trickiest event to shoot at Dripping Springs rodeo because the viewing areas are all on the opposite side of the arena from the chutes where the steers are released. Next year, I think I’ll be jumping fences to get a better viewpoint on the opposite side of the building.
