New Lanark sits on the banks of the river Clyde and part of the reason for it’s location was the local drop in elevation which made it straightforward to harness the water power to run the mill machinery. Although none of the existing water powered machinery is still there, one of the wheels is still visible and running in the position it would have occupied at the center of Mill Number 4.
