Western Scrub Jay

Pedernales Falls State Park has a couple of excellent bird blinds. During our visit on Saturday, however, there were very few excellent birds visiting. We saw quite a few cardinals and doves, a house finch and this scrub jay (aphelocoma californica) but most, like this guy, were straggly teenagers in the midst of shedding their juvenile plumage.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/8
  • Exposure bias: -3/6EV
  • Focal length: 600mm
  • ISO: 1600
  • Shutter speed: 1/1000s
