Most, if not all, band rehearsals at this time of the year are held on a practice field outside the high school. It’s an asphalted area the same size as the football field with all the usual line markings and it’s where the band learn the show’s marching sequences. I’m no expert here but, as far as I can gather, each player has a folder containing detailed descriptions of the sequences and, while learning the steps in isolation from the music, these folders often stand in for the instruments, hence the strange way this guy is holding his.
