Last Saturday was a busy day. In addition to the Bands of America competition, it was also Pioneer Day at the Dr. Joseph Pound Historical Farmstead in Dripping Springs. This annual event sees the normally-quiet local landmark transformed into a historical playpark for a day with all sorts of great demonstrations and family activities relating to 19th century life in the area. Buggy rides, blacksmithing demonstrations, cowboy shootouts, butter churning, flint knapping and, one that no-one can miss, the hourly firing of a civil war mortar. This couple were part of the group of civil war reenactors who looked after the mortar and other displays of flags and weaponry.
