Lewis Hamilton from Above

I’ve previously posted a monochrome version of this shot but I really like the colour original too so here it is. This shows three time world Formula 1 chamption Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes AMG Petronas driving around turn 17 at Circuit of the Americas during a rainy Friday practice session on October 23rd, 2015. Some people have asked how I managed to get overhead angles like this. These images were shot from the top of the iconic tower at Circuit of the Americas which gives great views of the striped area of track covering turns 16, 17 and 18. As a spectator, it will cost you a pretty penny to get up there during F1 weekend but, luckily for me, CoTA volunteers seem to get a free pass!

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/8
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 116mm
  • ISO: 100
  • Shutter speed: 1/125s
