A couple of days ago, Ernie Romer challenged me to post a nature picture each day for the next 7 days so here we go. I’m delving into the archive for this shot of a Chinese Pheasant (or, as I gather they are more correctly known, a Kalij Pheasant, Lophura leucomelanos) that I found in Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii a few years ago. These birds, like many species on the island, were introduced there. They are native to the foothills of the Himalayas.
One stipulation of the challenge was that I pass it on to another photographer each day but I’m going to modify this rule and pass it on to one person at the end of the week. Exponential growth makes it feel too much like a chain letter so I hope Ernie will forgive me.
