White Sands Textures I

I’ve been processing some of the pictures from our recent road trip to New Mexico so I’ll be running a series of White Sands Textures this week. These were all taken on July 9th at White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo. We got into the park at about 7:30am when the sun was still low enough in the sky to create some great side lighting. I found the contrast between the small scale, sharp, high frequency ripples in the sand and the large scale, smooth, curved dune faces fascinating.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/13
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 300mm
  • ISO: 100
  • Shutter speed: 1/90s
