White Sands Textures II

The dunes in White Sands National Monument are white due to the fact that they are comprised of fine, gypsum sand. Between the dunes, you can often find another form of gypsum, called selenite, laid down in curved ridges like those seen here.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/16
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 14mm
  • ISO: 100
  • Shutter speed: 1/60s
