Hiking on Enchanted Rock

Enchanted Rock or, to give it its full title, “Enchanted Rock State Natural Area“, is a huge, pink granite batholith situated about 3o minutes north of Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country. I took a gaggle of boys out there early on Saturday morning and we spent several hours scaling the main dome (seen here) and also the somewhat less huge but still enormous “Little Rock” which sits next to it. Cloudy weather made for a far less sweaty morning than I was expecting and we had a lot of fun wandering around through the enormous boulders and sheets of granite that have eroded off the main formations.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/9.5
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 135mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/500s
